Backcountry Mag’s Icon Issue
As much as I’d like to remain silent and humble about it, the fact is the latter can’t be done without a bit of confession. So I am humbled, and honored at being included in Backcountry Magazine’s list of 50 backcountry icons.
It is an honor because this comes from peers steering a ship that was once a competitor, then odd couple partners, and friends. No doubt the votes and nominations came from some of the others listed, and you. While your opinion might not have been solicited, the sentiments from the community at large had some sort of influence in this, even if not directly.
Which can also be humbling when you know you’re talking and interacting with the folks who were undoubtedly part of the jury for making that claim, or as was my case, to be called out on an undeniable trait during the mention. The side note on my opinions is hilarious.
Want to know who else is on the list of living legends? Check out the latest issue of Backcountry Magazine (Jan. 2013 – Vol. 18, #90). You’ll find a lot of names you’ve heard over the last couple of decades and perhaps be reminded of a few you forgot. Half the honor in being mentioned is being associated with people who I have considered to be influential in my skiing career as well. To be listed with them is truly an honor, and humbling. Thanks.
